Percy Press Snr
Percy Press Snr (1902-1980), was, in his time, the uncrowned king of Punch and Judy. He performed for many years on the pier at Hastings, in the White Rock Pavilion Hastings and at Madam Tussauds in London. He was chairman of prestigious British Puppet and Model Theatre Guild for many years. Both of his sons, Percy and Leslie, became Punch and Judy professors. The late Percy II worked for many years in Covent Garden, travelled all over the world as an ambassodor for Punch, and was instrumental in the formation of the Punch and Judy Fellowship. Leslie Press was still performing well into his 80s. Percy Press II’s daughter Adrienne is carrying the family tradition into the 21st century.
On Monday 30th December 1974 Percy Press Snr was the guest on Roy Plum;ley’s Desert Island Discs. To hear the recording made on that day please click on the image below. It is not a complete recording of the show, only the clip included here is all that remains.
